New Microsoft’s role-based certifications are live since 1st July and if you are planning to acquire Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Functional Consultant Associate certificates and badges, you have to pass MB-200 exam. In this two-part post, I will explain how I prepared for MB-200 and in Part 2 I will explain what are changes in exam pattern compare to previous Dynamics exams. If you are only interested in later, please click here from “Preparation Guide (Part-2)“. So let’s get started.
To Prepare for the examination here are few things you need:
Prerequisite
1. Trial Environment of Dynamics 365
You need to register for a Dynamics 365 free Trail account and setup an environment. Just watching video tutorials and reading blogs will not help to boost your confidence unless you try hands at all those new customization and configuration.
2. Login account for OPENedX – Microsoft Learning
To access all the video tutorials referred below, you need to sign-in to the new OPENedX portal by Microsoft. It works similar to the edX website and you can track your progress while studying for the exam.
So let’s go through study materials I used for MB-200 in the following sequence:
1. Complete video Tutorials
First, you should from video courses on OPENedX portal. It’s hard to find these courses directly on the portal so use below links to add them to your account by Enrolling on these courses.
- Microsoft: MB-200.1 Dynamics 365: Power Platform applications
- Microsoft: MB-200.2 Dynamics 365: Power Platform automation
- Microsoft: MB-200.3 Dynamics 365: Power Platform integrations
- Microsoft: MB-200.4 Dynamics 365: Power Platform test and deploy
Once you have enrolled on all the below courses, you will be able to access them through your dashboard.
2. Read detailed information from Dynamics 365 Documentation
Once you have got the idea about all the topics, Navigate to MB-200 exam and scroll down to “Skills measured“. You must have knowledge of all the listed topics.
Now the question is how to study each and every topic.
Pick up the topics one by and search them through Microsoft documentation and read detail about each topic. Here you will find the details about each feature, what they can do, how to configure and what are the limits and considerations. To illustrate, let’s take the topic of Business process flow.
Business process flows provide a guide for people to get work done. Through documentation, you will find details like:
- Why use business process flows?
- What can business process flows do?
- Multiple entities in business process flows
- Multiple business process flows are available per entity
- Business process flow privileges
- Business process flow considerations
- Business process flow entity customization support
Remember to read the “Note“, “Tips” & “Important” section in Microsoft documentation.
In my experience most of the questions are scenario based and if you know all considerations and limitations, you will be able to understand and answers most of the questions.
3. Practice all of the topics with scenarios in your Trial Environment
I personally believe that only if you try hands at new customization and configuration, not only you will be able to understand the changes but also be able to decide which component should be used under a given scenario.
Customization and Configuration for Dynamics 365 are little different from the past as now they are part of “Power Platform”. Everyone should try hands all new editors, admin centres, environments, analytics etc. to get familiar with the new “Power Platform”.
This exam concentrate on Office 365, Power Platform and Dynamics 365 along with other Microsoft services. It covers both Model Driven and Canvas App so you need to study about Power Apps. It covers both Dynamics 365 automation & MS Flow. So you need to learn about Power Platform along with Dynamics 365 core features to clear this exam.
Don’t get confused with “Preview Features”. Microsoft Dynamics exams are only based on live feature. So your answers should be based on live features only.
If you are going to practice using Trial versions, you might see new feature that are in preview like “New Form Editor” and you might choose wrong answer during your exam. So remember while it’s good to learn about new feature, keep in mind that your answers should not be based on that.
Well that’s all for now folks. In Part-2 of this post, I will explain the changes in exam pattern and how I personally prepared and cleared this exam. Till then, cheers.
