In Dynamics 365 2020 release wave 1, Microsoft had introduced modern email capabilities for customers by adding features like managing inline images, composing email in a pop-up, preview of email templates prior to applying and ability to copy and paste formatted content from Office documents.
Now as part of release wave 2, Microsoft has enhanced it further by adding following features:
- Consistent email experience: Enhanced email experience, which was earlier supported only while composing emails, will now support actions like view, update, and reply from the Timeline section.
- Intuitive file attachment experience: The following file attachment capabilities will be available:
- Inline file attachment experience with the ability to manage multiple files.
- Quick preview for files.
- Ability to select and manage multiple attached files.
Enable Enhanced Email for timeline
Well, to enable these new features for email, we need to navigate to App Settings area.
On the Overview tab, under Productivity tools, select Manage for Enhanced email for timeline.
Just set the Enhanced email for timeline toggle to Yes and Save. Now we can enjoy the new features for email.
Send email using the enhanced email experience
Now, we can navigate to an Account (or any other email-enabled entity) record and from timeline control, we can create and compose a new email in a pop-up within the context of the record.
We can use the following features:
- Navigate to different pages without losing the email content.
- Minimize the email window to get back to the records you were working on.
- Expand the email editor pop-up window to see more email options.
- Simultaneously open three emails compose pop-up windows.
- Search for and apply a predefined template to an email you’re composing.
- Insert attachments to an email.
Some Required Improvements
Although these new email enhancement will surely improve the productivity of the customers, we are still lagging behind in the email templates and email signature areas.
These two are an important part of the complete email experience in the model-driven app but, they still rely on the old rich text editor and hence, we can’t utilize them to their extent. We need to request to the product team so that they can add these enhanced features to the email template and signature.
I have submitted this idea to the team, and if you are reading this post, I hope you will vote for this idea as well so that we can push product team to enhance email templates and signature in the near future.
Till next time… 😉
