My idea of pursuing certification is to learn new things and keep myself up to date with the technology. I use certification as a checkpoint and it gives me the motivation to learn.
After completing MB-220 exam last weekend, I thought to share my experience on how I prepared for this exam and whats the impact of revised course update on the certification. I will talk about what to study and why hands-on is important.
Microsoft has decided to revise the certification courses every 6 months to coincide with the release wave of Power Platform. Hence, in April and October, the certification course will be revised and we should keep an eye on it before scheduling the exam.
So, here is the basic information about the exam:
Link to schedule for the exam: MB-220: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing
No. of Questions: 40 (this is how many I got)
Duration of Exam: 180 mins (210 mins including everything like a survey)
I was really happy with the amount of time they have allocated for this exam as some of us might need it to evaluate all the options before selecting correct answers.
Remember, there are a variety of questions like Yes/No, Multi-choice, Drag & Drop and so on, but as a few of them are grouped together, we can’t navigate back once we answer them. Hence, we need to give those groups enough time before moving on to the rest of the questions.
Prerequisite: A trial environment of Dynamics 365 Marketing
Now, unlike other Dynamics 365 Apps like Sales and Customer Service, it’s a little bit tricky when it comes to Marketing App. We can easily get the trial version by following steps given on Microsoft Docs website.
So, before we start preparing for MB-200, we need to get a free trial of Marketing.
If you have Mircosoft Dynamics 365 license/tenent, you can just then you can install the Dynamics 365 Marketing trial there simply by requesting it. The trial setup installs a dedicated Dynamics 365 trial instance at the same time and configures Marketing to run on that trial (you can’t install the Marketing trial on a production instance of Dynamics 365)
So let’s go through study materials I will recommend for MB-220 in the following sequence:
1. Marketing Online-Free Learning Path
Microsoft learning path provides the default online free study material for all certifications. It contains almost everything is in text format and some small labs. It’s the perfect place to start your study as the information is to the point with links to deep down further if you need to. There are a few learning paths as part of the free online learning course:
- Set up Dynamics 365 Marketing and configure advanced settings
- Work with core features in Dynamics 365 Marketing
- Manage events in Dynamics 365 Marketing
- Analyze insights in Dynamics 365 Marketing
I would recommend to study module by module and try some hands-on before moving to the next module. That way you will be able to remember things better unlike studying all the modules back to back, which makes things even boring. 😁
2. Learn about Microsoft Forms
As Voice of Customer (VoC) is depreciated and Mircosoft Form is the replacement, we need to start learning about MS Forms. From April 2020, the course will be revised and I am 100% sure it will include the questions from MS Forms instead of VoC.
You can choose any of the options below to start learning about MS Forms:
- If you enjoy video courses, then try the Microsoft Forms Essentials from Udemy.
- You can always choose to study from official Microsoft Forms Pro Documentation.
I hope people who are planning to pursue this exam, my journey and advice will help them to clear this exam with a high score.
Best of luck to all and until next time… 😉
